“What would you do if you didn’t play music?”

“What would you do if you didn’t play music?” My good friend Tyler asked me as we drove to Guitar Center. His question was one of the best I’ve heard all year, and it was the hardest to answer. The conversation continued and we discussed the time we put into our craft and the years we spent learning, the times we had to tell our friends that we couldn’t do something with them because we had to play. The general consensus of that conversation, I think, was that we had reached a point of no return.

Tyler has been playing drums for 9 years and I have been playing bass for 8. What we have done in that time is a reflection of our individual journeys and what we want from music. I like to think all of us do this for the same reason, the love of what we have accomplished and what we can do.

What I hope for this to be is a conversation, I hope my musical friends will join in and share their experiences. We all started at different places, for different reasons and those reasons somehow brought us to where we are today. I have friends that own studios, have put out records, are amazing songwriters and incredibly talented and original people.

I hope to make this a place for discussion of music, gear, philosophies and most importantly, how we got here. Please feel free to contribute if you have ideas, I’d love to hear your stories and thoughts.
